April 16, 2007. HUNTSVILLE, AL. The Huntsville Botanical Garden has installed
a unique audio tour throughout the Garden. This new technology, provided by
Guide By Cell of San Francisco, California uses guest’s cell phones to inform
visitors about the various features and attractions in the Garden.
Visitors simply dial an informational phone number and enter the feature or
attraction number about which they wish to learn. A 30- to 90-second message is
played for each of the 19+ stops around the Garden. There is no cost to the
visitor for the program.
This innovative program is the first of its kind in the state of Alabama.
Other gardens and museums throughout the country have used this program
successfully to inform, educate and direct visitors around their facilities.
Garden CEO, Paula Steigerwald stated, "This new program offers a wealth of
information at the visitor’s fingertips. It is easy to use, cost effective -
there is no charge to the guest, and easily adapted to highlight different parts
of our Garden as the seasons change."
Guide by Cell President, David Asheim added, "We are pleased to be able
to provide this new technology to Huntsville Botanical Garden. We are sure
that it will enhance the visitor experience and allow the Garden to offer a more
informative and educational package for their guests."
